The Ecliptic Collection - An Explanation

As it's name suggests, the thematic element in our Ecliptic Collection is the circle or ring. However simple in design, this basic shape has a deep symbolic history that traverses cultures & time. Emblematic of concepts such as totality, wholeness, timelessness, all cyclic movement, limitlessness, unity, oneness - the list is endless *nudge, wink* - make it a symbol we feel a close relation to. More than one of these ideas we can associate with our journey, our art, our ideology, our intention.

In hopes of creating a deeper connection between you, the wearer, & our jewelry, we have put together a brief explanation of the circle's history & symbolism.

Enjoy!

A BASIC SHAPE'S NOT SO BASIC HISTORY

The circle is one of the oldest and most fundamental symbols in human history, appearing in different cultures and contexts around the world. Its enduring significance is rooted in its simple yet profound representation of wholeness, completion, and unity. As a figure with no beginning or end, the circle represents infinity and cyclical patterns of life, death and rebirth.

In many ancient cultures, the circle was seen as a sacred shape that linked individuals and communities to the cosmic order, the divine realm, and the natural world. For example, the Sun, the Moon, and the planets all appear as circular objects in the sky, and their cycles and movements were often associated with the cycles of life and the seasons on earth. In addition, many spiritual traditions incorporate the circle in their rituals, such as the use of mandalas in Hinduism and Buddhism.

The circle has also been used as a symbol of political, social and cultural identity, as well as a means of communication and expression. For instance, tribal societies often used circular motifs in their art and textiles as a way of asserting their unity, while in modern times, the circle has been adopted as a symbol of various movements and causes, such as feminism, environmentalism, and LGBTQ rights.

Overall, the circle symbolizes the interconnectedness of all things, the horizons of possibility, and the timeless essence of existence. Its enduring power and versatility make it a truly universal symbol that continues to inspire and captivate us to this day.
